> EASE [ 2007 ]

EASE is an interactive installation that takes place in an empty dark room where people are free to move within the space. This room also has wall-mounted speakers playing Brian Eno’s Music for Airports (which was specifically designed for large public spaces in the 1970’s) at low volume. People who walk in the room must wear special devices that emit infrared light which is then picked up and computed as a spatial position – when two or more people get closer to one another, the volume of the music raises, alerting the two users that they might collide with one another soon. This way, people in the room are aware of the other’s positions in relation to themselves, and must rely on the music to guide them.
