> Fish need hard drive [ 2006 ]
Experimental project which actually did not completely work, but was entertaining and fun to build. I bought an aquarium for 6 zebrafish (which are tropical fish, and require a higher than room temperature) and had them adapt to their new home for a few days. After this time, I replaced the heater by a hard drive which was submerged but protected from the water (don't worry, I know this is a dangerous thing to do) to heat the water for the fish. I then proceeded to document the life of my new fish and put all these pictures on the hard drive in their tank, and used my computer as a server for a few days, offering a public access to the documentation. In theory, the more the people went to check out the website (which was hosted on the hard drive), the more chances the fish had to survive, making the hard disk work harder, thus generating more heat. The project did work in the sense that people went to see website and the hard drive did generate heat, but the technical equipment wasn't good enough to transmit the heat needed to keep the fish alive, so I had to reinstall the heater after a while.
